Massage Style
Get more from your body with less effort
Your body is a living, breathing organism, whose structure is built not only on genetics, but on your habits. The position you sleep in (a third of your day), what you do for a living (another third of your day), and the types of exercise you get create much of your body structure (for better or worse!) We all live with some degree of pain. ‘Re-structuring’ the interaction of certain muscle groups can alleviate your pain and train muscles into proper function. This allows you to get more from your body, with less effort.
How I work
I focus on the body’s transformation, and use a combination of massage styles to bring about long-term improvements in your body.
Everything starts with an open conversation. What are the issues that affect you most? Drawing on the long flowing strokes of Swedish, the restructuring strokes of Deep Tissue, the injury-specific knowledge of Sports Massage, and the nerve reprogramming of Trigger Point, plus a solid knowledge of anatomy… I work with what’s on the table.
I also recognize that, sometimes, the most important thing you can do is to simply relax.
Bodywork goals
Some of the things you may see after working with me:
Fluid joint tracking and faster race times for atheletes
Faster post-event healing times
Relief of chronic injury pain
More flexibility in ‘stuck’ areas around old injuries
Changes for the better in the holding of lifetime stress patterns
Improvement in discomfort caused by scoliosis
A profound sense of being ‘grounded’, or relaxed.
If I find that I cannot help your issue, I’ll do my best to refer you to someone who can.
Other bits of interest
I use essential oils and loations that are organic and paraben-free (and locally-produced, where possible!)
In my spare time, I sometimes DJ for an internet radio station, playing a funky mixture of jazz and downtempo music. You’ll often hear these mixes in the treatment room. (It must be good; my clients often request playlists for everyday listening!) And, I love hearing new things, so feel free to bring your own music on a CD or iPod.
